Paving The Way
Paving The Way was created by City of Columbus in 1990 as a cooperative effort among the Federal Highway Administration, the Ohio Department of Transportation, and the city of Columbus to improve planning and communication of construction projects. It is the nation's first program to address construction management and communication on a regional, rather than project basis.
VA was tasked with reimagining Paving The Way’s dated website and bringing a new level of interactivity, functionality, flexibility and modernity to the user-interface. Additionally, the site required subscription-based email, SMS, and RSS notifications that were completely customizable.
VA’s solution includes an interactive home page map with pinpointed locations for the highest-impacting construction projects, including the ability to obtain additional information on the project straight from the map. The entire site is responsively constructed so that a quality experience is maintained across all device types. Email and SMS blasts were achieved through MailGun integration.
Backend management of the site’s content is achieved through custom-designed software modules which allow full management of projects, including the ability to pin projects onto the map via GPS coordinates.
